Lesvos is our first location. A beautiful island, one of the biggest islands in Greece, located in the Aegean Sea. Super close to Turkey, it is literally Europe’s border. The capital is Mytilini and Lesvos has a population of about 75,000 people. Reality check: since April 2015 more than 700.000 people on the run have arrived to the island, almost 10x the original population!

The locals are dependent on tourism and 11 million olive trees. Since the start of this humanitarian crisis, the tourism industry has virtually disappeared. As if one crisis isn’t enough, the island’s population, like most of Greece, is also suffering from the economic crisis. Despite this, a large part of the local population has shown massive compassion and incredible hospitality towards all people involved. And we always support the locals wherever we can.

On this map of Lesvos we’ve marked several practical sites: http://bit.ly/BWCKAART
